Can I get ACA coverage with an ITIN?
An ITIN does not decide ACA eligibility; your immigration status does. If you are lawfully present and live in Florida, you can usually buy a Marketplace plan without an SSN. If you are undocumented, you cannot buy one, even at full price, but an ITIN filer can apply for eligible children or a spouse.

What the ITIN does and does not do
An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number lets you file US taxes. The Marketplace asks for an SSN only if you have one; lawfully present immigrants who do not have an SSN yet apply with their immigration document numbers (HealthCare.gov). Undocumented immigrants cannot buy Marketplace coverage, even at full cost (KFF).
Mixed-status families
A parent who is not eligible can still apply for a child or spouse who is. People who are not applying for themselves do not have to give their immigration status (HealthCare.gov). A tax filer with an ITIN can generally claim the premium tax credit for eligible family members, but the household must file a tax return to reconcile it.
Tax credits in 2027
From January 1, 2027, federal tax credits go only to citizens, green card holders, Cuban and Haitian entrants and COFA migrants. Visa holders, asylum applicants, TPS holders and others who are lawfully present can still buy a plan, but at full price (KFF). Our guide Health insurance without an SSN covers the other options, including private and international plans.
