Health insurance for self-employed people in Florida
Most self-employed people in Florida buy an Obamacare (ACA) Marketplace plan, using expected net business income to set their tax credit. For 2027, Open Enrollment runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027. Premiums are usually deductible, bronze plans can pair with an HSA, and owners with employees can also look at group plans.

Estimating your income
Use your expected 2027 net self-employment income (revenue minus business expenses) plus any other household income. Tips, rideshare and 1099 work all count. Because there is no longer a cap on repaying excess tax credits (KFF), report a realistic number and update it when business changes. HealthCare.gov has a page for self-employed coverage.
Other options
Owners with employees can compare a small group plan or an ICHRA, where the business gives employees a tax-free allowance to buy their own plan (group insurance). Visa holders who are self-employed, for example on an E-2, no longer get ACA tax credits from 2027 and should compare full-price ACA with international plans (E-2 guide). In Broward, 22 Health markets plans to freelancers and restaurant workers and includes Memorial and Broward Health (22 Health).
